Our HistoryJanuary 2012 was the turning point in my life. I came home from church to learn that my daughter of 31 years had passed away unexpectedly. Six weeks later, divorce papers were filed, and my husband had moved to another state. I was suddenly a single parent, raising my youngest and my daughter's kids. I knew God had a plan and purpose but couldn't understand it.
In the fall of 2017, God asked me to leave my life, friends, house, and business and move to NC. I was here by March, starting completely over and knowing no one down here. God, what is your plan??? While on a missions trip to Brazil in 2021, I visited a church with a beautiful table that could seat many. The food around the table was so inviting, and I noticed that gathering and fellowshipping there just made you want to stay and linger. When I returned home, God laid it on my heart to do the same for my table. Thus started my small gatherings for singles. I hosted three different dinner groups once a month. But God wanted more. I started a small singles group at Church, where we met weekly. Through it all, I met my husband, and God has been calling us to build it bigger than just a small group at Church. Gather YAL started. We are taking it area-wide and open to many churches. Too often, singles don't seem to fit in. Most churches cater to married folks and kids ministries, leaving singles out. At Gather YAL, we strive to have a welcoming atmosphere where you can come and share a monthly dinner, connect with other Christian singles, find Bible studies or activities to get involved, and just experience God's love. I know what it's like to be single; I was a single parent for over ten years. I know the pain of losing someone you held so dear—the loneliness and struggles of being a single parent. I also know that GOD is a God of Hope and Mercy—the God of Love. Sometimes, losing is gaining. If you let it, it can draw you to a much deeper relationship with God. —Barbara Branyon |
"I was introduced to the TLC Singles and Gather YAL groups at a time of my life when I needed them most. The fellowship with like-minded Christians and studying the word brought me closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and a group of Christian friends I consider family."
